In Milan’s Parco Sempione, it’s the trees that are sharing their secrets.
The Secret Stories of Trees is a walking tour led by licensed guides, degreed Art Historians from the award-winning group Milanoguide. This 2-hour stroll through the magnificent botanical beauty of the park brings you into a world previously known only by its contours. It is a scientific discovery, to be sure, rich in description provided by a well-informed professional, focusing especially on the most interesting and exotic examples of arboreal elegance present in the park. We see not simply cedars but are introduced to various kinds of cedars and learn the differences between them. For time immemorial, man has made use of leaves, woods, barks and berries to produce not only useful household items – from furniture to furnishings, from tools to decorations – but sweet liqueurs, effective medicines… and even more effective poisons! It takes a real specialist to know what to use, and how much, to get the desired effect: elevation or inebriation, healing or homicide! Indeed, experts trained in herbology were historically among the best respected – and the most feared – members of noble courts across Europe.
