“Io ci sono per Milano, con i milanesi, con sentimento”. Uno dei personaggi più famosi nell'universo della moda, ha voluto gridare un messaggio d'amore per la sua città, scrivendolo sui muri a caratteri cubitali. Un autentico atto d'amore che Giorgio Armani ha voluto gridare sui muri della città da lui tanto amata. Un sincero affettuoso abbraccio a tutti coloro che vivono e lavorano in questa straordinaria città colpita dalla pandemia.
Lo chiamano Re Giorgio, per l'austerità e la regale compostezza della sua figura. Sa bene di essere un'istituzione nel mondo della moda, da tutti considerato come uno dei più grandi stilisti apparsi sulla scena mondiale. Ma Armani è un uomo discreto che non ama parlare di sé. È soprattutto qualcuno che non si è mai risparmiato per ridare in qualche modo a Milano ciò che Milano ha dato a lui: fama, benessere, notorietà.
Sempre pronto a sostenere giuste cause, ad aiutare la città e i suoi cittadini, da quando è cominciata la pandemia non ha esitato nel convertire in poche settimane la sua produzione in mascherine e camici di protezione per il personale medico degli ospedali, devolvendo anche parte del ricavato delle vendite in beneficenza. È noto il suo impegno per contribuire a sostenere l'Opera San Francesco per i poveri e il suo particolare coinvolgimento nel piano di ampliamento del verde della città in collaborazione con il Comune di Milano e con ForestaMi, donando ben 300 nuovi alberi da piantare nei parchi milanesi, come parte del progetto avviato lo scorso anno, che ne prevede tre milioni entro il 2030.
Piacentino di nascita, ha studiato a Milano ed è a Milano che ha iniziato a lavorare, prima come vetrinista ai magazzini 'La Rinascente' e poi presso lo stilista Nino Cerruti. Ed è sempre a Milano che nel 1975 ha fondato la 'Giorgio Armani S.p.A.', un marchio noto in tutto il mondo.

È stato un innovatore assoluto, ha rivoluzionato il design della moda destrutturando le giacche troppo rigide e gli abiti imbalsamati. Lo stile Armani ha fatto scuola. Fu lui a disegnare gli abiti dell' ‘American Gigolò’ impersonato da Richard Gere nel famoso film del 1980, al cui successo contribuirono in misura notevole altri italiani, come Giorgio Moroder, autore delle musiche e Bottega Veneta che disegnò e rese celebre la borsa Red Clutch della protagonista Lauren Hutton.
La sua ascesa professionale è stata vertiginosa, eppure dell'uomo Giorgio Armani si ignora quasi tutto. La sua vita privata non è mai stata oggetto di cronache sui giornali. Quasi nessuno sa che è proprietario di una squadra milanese di basket, l'Olimpia, e che produce vino delle sue vigne nell'isola di Pantelleria, alla quale è particolarmente affezionato. Le sue abitudini di vita sono semplici: da bravo piacentino, a tavola adora i tortelli di spinaci e ricotta chiusi a caramella, ama circondarsi di persone care, famigliari, amici stretti e collaboratori fidati. Il patrimonio di Giorgio Armani è stato recentemente valutato dall'autorevole rivista Forbes intorno agli 8,9 miliardi di dollari, collocandolo al 5° posto tra gli uomini più ricchi d'Italia e al 174° posto nel mondo.

Giorgio Armani’s letter to Milan: I’m here for you. One of fashion’s greatest icons declares his love for his city in a message written on its walls in enormous block letters
“I’m here for Milan, with the Milanese, with all my heart.” In a true act of love, Giorgio Armani has written his message on the walls of his beloved city. It is a sincerely affectionate hug to everyone who lives and works in this extraordinary city so tragically affected by the pandemic.

They call him King Giorgio, a title inspired by his regal bearing. He is quite of aware that he is an institution in the world of fashion, considered by all to be one of the greatest stylists ever to grace the world stage. But Giorgio Armani, a man of infinite discretion, prefers not to talk about himself. He has never stinted in giving back to Milan that which Milan gave to him: fame, well-being, notoriety.
Ever ready to support his city and its residents, from the moment the pandemic broke out he lost no time in dedicating his efforts to the production of masks and protective gear for hospital personnel, donating part of the proceeds to charity. His contributions to the San Francisco Opera’s programmes for the poor are well known, as are his efforts, in conjunction with the City of Milan and ForestaMi, to expand green space in the city. His donation of 300 new trees to the city’s parks is part of a project that expects to plant 3 million trees by 2030.
Revolutionising fashion design by de-structuring jackets and softening suit lines, Armani was behind the exquisite styles on display in 1980s American Gigolo, starring Richard Gere. The film also contributed to the success of other Italians, such as composer Giorgio Moroder and Bottega Veneta, the design house behind Lauren Hutton’s unforgettable Red Clutch.
Though his professional ascendency has been dizzying, we know nearly nothing about Giorgio Armani the man. His private life has never been the fodder of the gossip columns. Almost no one knows that he is the owner of a Milanese basketball team, Olimpia, and that he produces wine from his vineyard on the island of Pantelleria, so deeply cherished by him. He leads a simple life: he loves the typical dishes of his native Piacenza and being surrounded by those dear to him, be they family, friend, or faithful collaborator. Forbes recently estimated his worth to be about 8.9 billion dollars.
